There are many fronts to be fought to bring about positive change. We here at NoSSN are using education to accomplish this. Bringing you news and letting as many people know these things as possible. Some people take the fight head on like Ed and Elaine Brown in their standoff in Plainfield New Hampshire. http://www.myspace.com/time2makeastand

Some people like DownsizeDC (www.DownsizeDC.org) work within the system to bring about positive change. Just like the way we got this way, slowly without anyone taking too much notice DownsizeDC is working to bring about change.

If anyone has visited the NoSSN site recently you may have noticed a new banner for the Read the Bills Act Coalition. This is one of DownsizeDC’s many projects. If this bill becomes law it will require that congress read the entire bill of any bill before congress before voting on it. In my opinion, this should be a given. It shouldn’t require a law requiring the reading of bills. Everyone in congress should insist on reading all the bills before voting on them. There is no way of knowing what is in a bill simply by looking at the title or reading a summary. It’s pretty sad when you have to force congress to actually read the bills they vote on.

If you look at some of these you will realize that there is no way possible that they could read the entire bill, discuss it and vote on it all in the same week.

When our founding fathers created the government they knew that the best government was a small government with the fewest laws possible. They made the lawmaking process long and protruded on purpose. If the process was difficult it would ensure that only laws that were absolutely necessary would be passed. Over time congress has streamlined the process so that they could pass more bills into law and increase the size, power and scope of government to the point where we are now.

Another bill DownsizeDC is working on is the “One Subject at a Time Act” this is one that is definitely needed as well. There are times where they will have a bill for one subject and hide something else in that bill for something totally unrelated. For example what does port security and online poker have to do with each other? Nothing. Yet, that doesn’t stop them from being in the same bill titled (something to the effect of), “A Bill to increase port security and for other purposes.” This bill did increase port security but it also prohibited Americans from participating in online poker games. In this day and age no one would vote against increasing port security but without reading the bill who would know what the other purposes were? Naturally they voted, it passed.

We have been resistant to send out NewsLetters in HTML format. We have been sticking to straight Text since everyone uses a different e-mail program it can be difficult to know exactly how the newsletter will look in every e-mail client.

Angilla – The Promised Land

I can’t say enough about British territories. Hong Kong was British territory for 99 years. They pretty much didn’t care what went on there and what happened? The place flourished to the point where there wasn’t enough land to go around.

Anguilla is another such place. A small island in the Caribbean just a stones throw from Sint Maarten. It is a UK territory and they have let them govern themselves. The laws are based on English common laws (Don’t infringe on others rights and you can do whatever you want) and there are no taxes in Anguilla. No income tax, no corporate tax, no capital gains tax, no withholding tax… That’s right, no tax at all. All government income is derived from accommodation fees (from visitors), import duties, license fees and company registrations.

Anguilla wishes to become a large offshore corporation location. They have made it easy and cheap to locate your corporation there. This also increases the revenue for Anguilla without touching the citizen.

It’s also a beautiful place. The only drawback, the occasional hurricane. No matter where you live you have to put up with something. Here in the Northeast, the blizzard, California, earthquakes, The Midwest, floods, Alaska, six month days and co-o-o-old. So, move to Anguilla, batten down the hatches and never have to deal with government intervention again!
