Braving The Storm An article from the January 2005 issue of the members only monthly periodical the Liberty Tree written by Jim Kerr, SAPF staff paralegal Well, the meeting was not called off. About twenty people came — including a family from Ohio — risking getting stranded, as the snow was already several inches deep and coming down heavily. Mr. Turner told us that after receiving his degree in Communications, he took a job with the IRS as a Revenue Officer. His father-in-law, a 35-year career IRS employee, retired as Collection Division Chief. But it was his wife, ironically, who brought him to a lecture on how the IRS routinely misapplied the tax laws. Upon learning that Mr. Turner worked for the IRS, the lecturer encouraged him to investigate the tax laws for himself, which he did. The more he read the Internal Revenue Code, the more he got a sick feeling in his gut, Mr. Turner said. Although he made every effort to go about his duties as a Revenue Officer in an honest, ethical way, the more "rocks" he turned over during continued research, the slimier and slimier it seemed to get. (This is the earmark of the intellectually honest, that they feel this way upon discovering such truths.) Thereafter, Mr. Turner tendered his resignation, for he could not reconcile what he was doing with his Christian principles. He made a bold decision — one not popular with much of his family — to cease being part of the problem. But Mr. Turner took a further step: he joined the effort to get our government back under the law, thereby becoming part of the solution. Last year, Mr. Turner joined the Fellowship, and came to Headquarters the weekend of January 22nd to film his part in the DVD we are making to reestablish Liberty Works Radio Network. When shooting in the office of one of the paralegals, between clips, Mr. Turner noticed on the table, an edition of the Reasonable Action Newsletter which piqued his interest (Jan/Feb 1991). Mr. Turner read it on the plane back to California. The next day, he called John Kotmair, exclaiming that he was amazed that we knew so much about the Substitute for Return (SFR) Program way back in 1991— that SAPF was on the cutting edge fifteen years ago. What Mr. Turner had revealed on Saturday night was totally consistent with what we wrote on the subject of "SFR/IRC 6020(b)" way back then. During his presentation, Mr. Turner claimed that the weak link in holding the current tax system together is the SFR procedures used by the IRS. This is because the IRS has no authority to prepare a Form 1040 for anyone, and in fact, the IRS does not ever prepare a valid 1040 "return" under IRC 6020(b). Mr. Turner believes that if large numbers of people could really be made aware of that weak link and understand the implications, people would be outraged and stop filing 1040 returns. To me, these events are propitious, evidence that the Hand of God is guiding our efforts to get this country back under the law, consistent with God's governmental plan for mankind (see ch. 1, Piercing the Illusion.) The timing of the snow storm? Maybe that's propitious as well. There is a parallel between weathering a snow storm — as did the attendees of the lecture — and the spiritual warfare, gathering into a major storm in these troubled days, that the serious patriot must weather. Do you know who said this?
It troubles me when I hear people say, it's too late, we should just give up. Hogwash! We must never forget that tyrants live in a house of cards. If it is His will that we weather this storm, and overcome these oppressors, then we cannot just sit on our hands, for "The true danger is when liberty is nibbled away, for expedients, and by parts ... the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." [There is uncertainty about the origin of this quote, attributed to Edmund Burke.] The power of knowledge must not be underestimated, for it will bring down this house of cards; this is what the tyrant fears most. And this is where Liberty Works Radio Network comes into play.
