New Feature - Letters to Congress

We have developed a new feature here at NoSSN. It's called Letters to Congress.

There are many ways you can contact your Representative or your Senators. You can call them, you can send a fax, you can e-mail or you can snail mail. Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages.

Calling congress certainly has it's advantages. You may get to speak to a live person and they get to hear your voice. That has it's own way of getting the message across.

Faxing is another option. This of course ties up a phone line and you may have to redial several times before you get an answer.

E-mail is definitely easy and inexpensive. The problem here is that it is also very easy to select and bunch of e-mails and delete them without reading them. The subject may get read and that may be it. They may get read. We can send return receipt and we may know.

One option that has not been widely available is to snail mail. We have just simplified this option for you. We have the complete database of 111th Congress at our fingertips. You enter in your name and address, the Rep. or Senator you wish to snail mail. The Campaign you would like to mail about, your personal message and you're just about done.

We have several campaigns to start with. Naturally we are supporting several of the Campaigns from DownSizeDC.org as well as many of our own. We'll be adding more as time goes on.

We have two options. You can view the finished product in your web browser and print it and mail it. Or, you can request us to do it for you. We will print your letter(s) on quality paper with a laser printer, stuff the envelope, stamp it and drop it off at the post office for you. We are requesting donations for this service.

We are suggesting $1.50 - $2.50 for each letter. If you donate less it doesn't mean your letter will not go out but there are no guarantees. As you may know, we are trying to meet our expenses and this is one way to do that.

ObamaCare and reading the Bills

I will be completely honest here. I don't know all that much about the Health Care plan that is poised to be passed soon. What I do know is that it will create a huge new federal bureaucracy and will put the government further into our lives. It will also penalize people that don't have coverage. This is wrong on so many levels.

The government has no business or permission to be in the health care industry. The Constitution does not give any authority to the government to be in the healthcare business. Of course there is no provision to be in the insurance business but that doesn't stop them.

Since when is the government allowed to get information on the state of our health? When do we have to give the government any information?

This bill is approximately 1,000 pages. here's a question; has ANY congressman, Representative or Senator read the entire bill in it's entirety? Has anyone else read the bill in it's entirety? And understood it? I don't think that is possible.

My question is: Who wrote it?

The scary thing here is that Obama wants this passed ASAP. It's like there is some scary deadline that needs to be met. Something really bad is going to happen if we don't have this legislation passed in a trimely manner.

This reminds me of back in the Spring when the Stimulus bill was being passed. The economy was in such bad shape that we had to pass this bill before anyone got to read it. It was imperative. We needed to do something and do it now!

What happened? They passed it without reading it. The economy is in worse shape than it was then. Unemployment is worse, everything is worse. Obama and his henchman are saying that the stimulus is working as planned and the economy may not get better until 2010 or 2011.

What? If the Stimulus was not going to improve the economy right away, what was the rush to pass it without reading it?

Our system of passing legislation is not easy. It is this way on purpose. There is every opportunity to defeat any bill. The reason is it's better to have fewer laws. Congress is supposed to move slowly. Read the Bills and make sure that this is something that needs to be passed. The country has survived for over 200 years without universal health care. It can certainly survive until you read 1,000 pages.

violation of the laws of the United States; shall be guilty of a
felony and upon conviction thereof shall be fined under title 18 or
imprisoned for not more than five years, or both.

The Privacy Act makes it unlawful to require a SSN unless it is
specifically required by law.
