UPDATES: * Victory Express! Exciting News!
In June's issue of the Liberty Tree, the Save-A-Patriot Fellowship's members' only newsletter, it was reported that recently members who have been damaged by illegal IRS or state taxing activity have received up to 125% of their submitted claim under the member's assistance program - receiving more than they lost due to government tyranny. Of course we encourage all considering to "take action" to consider protecting property first so as to decrease any possible strain upon the existing membership. However we do compensate our members as a result of any loss due to lien, levy, or seizure, at work and home, as rare as that has become of late.
To learn more about membership visit http://www.taxfreedom101.com/pages/memberships.htm and request a main program agreement for further details on the members' assistance program - the Victory Express.

NEWS: * Tax Break for Joe Six-Pack
We have to keep 'em fat, dumb and happy - else they might catch on. Now don't read us wrong, any tax reduction is a good thing in our book when it benefits our citizens at home. However, will a tax break on alcohol really help America? Probably not, but it most certainly will help those politicians who pressed for the tax reduction to stay in office.

* Americans say: Please More Taxes!
Sometimes when you ask the wrong question you get the right answer, at least in part. The survey conducted by the Markel Foundation asked citizens if they believed, and we stress believed, "should online commerce be exempt from taxation"? The not so surprising response was of course - "no". Why should anyone required to pay a tax be "exempt"? The question is "are you required"? However when you ask the wrong question sometimes you get the right answer, but not for the right reasons. The feeling is that since brick and mortar stores pay sales taxes, so should the online merchants. Of course if Americans were smart they would still say no, because we all know that increased costs (including taxes) are passed onto the consumer. Taxing the Internet will be no small venture, and we would venture to say it will cause a regulatory agency to come into existence to eat out more of our sustenance.

* Some Americans say: Please No More Taxes!
"Well here we go again," say the folks in Tennessee. In June of last year we alerted our readers of the plight of Tennesseeans to block the proposed state income tax. Apparently the legislature did not get the message the first time.

All we can think of when we read this story is the repeated sucker gag Lucy used to play on Charlie Brown in the Peanut's series. You know the one where she would hold the football for Charlie Brown to kick and at the last minute pull it away, but not before convincing Charlie Brown that this was the time she would hold it still for Charlie Brown to kick through the uprights. Well this time it is Taxpayers laying flat on their backs. UGH!!!!

INFORMATION:
* The Spirit of '43
starring Disney's own Donald Duck
The Spirit of '43 was an animated color film short commissioned by the United States Treasury and produced by Walt Disney. It was a movie leader [preview], much like a news reel, to nearly every movie in the midst of World War II. The purpose of this piece was to encourage Americans to save for their quarterly estimated tax payments to fund the war effort. This brilliant propaganda piece plays upon the emotions, and the sensibility of Patriotic Americans to forgo self and contribute to ultimate victory - winning the war.
Film Background
Remember there was no television in the early 40s, the only visual medium the government could use to reach the public were films at movie houses. Going to the movies was a popular past time, and citizens usually attended nearly every week. By various estimates, over 60 million Americans viewed a reluctant Donald Duck being converted into an eager, tax paying duck who would allow taxes to be withheld "to defeat the Axis". A Gallup poll indicated that the film affected 37% of all American taxpayers' willingness to pay the Victory Tax. "Spirit of '43" makes no mention of the impending "withholding" from workers' paychecks, yet it is quite obviously intended to promote the desirability of withholding, if be it responsibly by oneself until quarterly payment came due. Beardsley Ruml, chairman of the Federal Reserve Board of New York would later introduce pay-as-you-go tax withholding in the work place so citizens would never again be "caught short" on tax day.
American Nationalism Wins Over The Law
The Victory Tax Act, which we have included as part of the Tax Research Compendium was enacted in 1942 shortly after the war began. The Victory Tax was a direct tax on income. However Article 1, Section 2, Clause 3 requires that direct taxes be apportioned to the several states [not citizens directly], and therefore it was unconstitutional. However the Victory Tax Act's constitutionality was never challenged by the people of the United States. The psychology and influence [propaganda] developed in "The Spirit of '43" through its use of surreal imagery and feelings of National Patriotism and civic duty to - as the narrator puts it... "pay your taxes gladly and proudly" as an evil and powerful enemy "The Axis" of Germany and Japan advance, accomplished its goal to get Americans to pay this voluntary tax. Any citizen questioning the tax might as well be considered the enemy by the end of this film clip, which may give you dear reader some insights into how we have progressed to this modern state of voluntary complacency about our tax burden when our government tells us it is for our own good.
The Same Voluntary Tax Remains Today.
The Victory Tax Act was renewed in 1944 and was to expire upon the cessation of hostilities, yet remains in effect today, codified under the Internal Revenue Code at code section 3402 in subtitle C - Wage and Employment Tax, not the "Income" Tax. When WWII was over, Washington simply could not let go of its newfound riches - the payroll tax the public had been conditioned to accept.
American Socialism [Communism's Pretty Friend]
Instead of a World War for an excuse to collect these taxes today, many citizens have been effectively conditioned to parrot "who is going to pay for the roads, the military, ad nauseam", when others who have learned what the law says, say no to these inapplicable taxes. Brainwashed and ignorant Americans do not realize that indirect taxes [excises, imposts, and duties] pay for those items necessary for the lawful services people expect from government, not the wage and employment taxes collected from citizens' paychecks. Yet these conditioned lab rats still manage to get out under their breath 'tax cheat' as they walk away unwilling to investigate for themselves what really lies beneath the dusty book covers of the written law. These citizens, for lack of a better word, do not realize that the weekly direct taxes taken out of each worker's paycheck goes to pay for national socialism - that being wealth redistribution - the antithesis of a free republic, and a modern politician's wet dream, republican and democrat alike.
Introducing "The Spirit of '43" Compact Disk
A new addition to the Tax Freedom 101 product list is this remastered film short. Thanks to the work of dedicated Patriots the film has been found on various low budget video releases containing other public domain cartoon features at yard sales, attics, etc., all except the National Archives... hmmm? This historic piece is now safe from being extinguished and suppressed by government, and is available now.
