Ron Paul for President -

Congressman Ron Paul may be throwing his hat into the ring for President. His website, http://www.ronpaul.org/ tells us that he has formed an exploratory committee looking into it. Congressman Paul is the only member of congress that I am aware of that is a true, freedom loving American.

From his website, here are his “Freedom principles”

• Rights belong to individuals, not groups.
• Property should be owned by people, not government.
• All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.
• The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.
• Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.
• The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.

I could not say it any better myself. It’s a beautiful thing.

Even if he doesn't get elected, simply running could possibly open people's eyes.

Here is another of my pipe dreams. Just remember, this is a dream.

The other night I was flipping through the channels and I happened to see this program about a ship named “The World”. (http://www.aboardtheworld.com/) This is a luxury ship that has permanent residents. It cruises all over the place, stopping for a night or two at different ports. The cabins are not really cabins. They are more like apartments in the range of 1500 square feet. For such a large ship it has relatively few residents. Naturally, this is because the cabins are huge. The residents number about 300. To purchase a residence about “The World” you will need about 4 million FRNs. This ship is for the upper crust. If you want to live in the lap of luxury and require the fancy furnishings, fine Corinthian leather, Italian granite table tops and designer rugs, this ship is for you.

One of the things that caught my eye was the fact that this was year round living accommodations constantly on the move. Why would they need to call any country “home”? Then I began to think.

How hard would it be to do this:

1) Get some investors together.
2) Purchase a used cruise ship.
3) Refit it. Make each two cabins into a single cabin
4) Sell them as condominiums
5) Start our own floating country.

Where “The World” is targeting the high end luxury market we would target those that want total freedom from government interference.

We could create our own Constitution. I would suggest a Constitutional Monarchy. It’s not that I want to be King as bad as I want my son to be the Prince (This is my pipe dream remember?). We could have our own currency backed by silver and gold. Naturally my son, the Prince’s picture would be on it.

Each Condo will have it’s own appliances, stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer. The stores on board could be converted into the kind of things required for day to day living. We could even invite guests to the casino and make money for the country that way as well.

Just think of the business possibilities in being our own floating country. The money making opportunities in the banking industry alone boggle the mind.

This ship could sail the world, be at different ports at different times for all the good events. It would be beautiful. If bad weather is expected in the Caribbean, sail to South America.

I found a suitable ship for sale:
http://www.yachtingbrokers.com/cruise_ship_757_pax.html

This one has 300 cabins. We double those up and run some preliminary numbers:

Purchase Price: 8.5 million FRN.
150 Condos: $56,666 /cost each
Sale price: $200,000 each Total: $30 million
--------------------------------------------------

$21.5 million should be plenty to get us started.

Naturally there would be condo fees to pay for the ongoing running of the ship. The staff and captain etc. would need to be paid as well as the fuel and port costs. There would be other income to offset these costs but I haven’t figured those out yet. I don’t have any solid numbers for these things so I’m at a stand still at this point.

The details haven’t been worked out yet. Will doubling the cabins be sufficient? How much room is being taken up by the resteraunt, disco etc. Could these be made into more condos or other stores? These are all unknowns.

Hey, if the ship idea doesn’t work, we can always buy an island and declare independence!

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money
from the Public Treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship." ..."The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic", by Alexander Fraser Tyler
