NoSSN NewsLetter issue 8.06 Downsizer Dispatch – Major Progress Made Obama Citizenship I’m looking into the future and I’m seeing bad things happening regardless of how things turn out in the Obama Citizenship issue. The constitution requires that a president must be a “natural born citizen.” This tells me that in order to be elected one must be born in one of the fifty states in order to be eligible. As of this date the only document that has surfaced is a Hawaiian Certification of Birth. This document does say that it serves as Prima Facie evidence that a Certificate of Birth exists. Personally I do not doubt the authenticity of this document. However, I also do not believe that this document is sufficient in itself to satisfy the Constitutional requirement. If there were no question it certainly would. This is not the case here. It is common practice for U.S. citizens residing in a foreign country to request a record of birth when returning to the states with a newborn. The actual “Certificate of Birth” would include the hospital name, doctors name and signature and more details than what the Obama camp has produced. It is my understanding these things have been requested but the Obama camp has been silent. Silence such as this tells me that there is something that is being kept hidden. There are several reasons why they would want to keep secret something on this document. It may show that the birth did indeed happen in Kenya. Maybe Obama wants it to come out later so he can look like a victim. Maybe there is another tidbit that has not yet come to light. I read a WND article that said that they sent a team of investigators to all the Hawaiian hospitals searching for a hospital record of his birth. They have come up empty there as well. Let’s set aside for a moment the fact that his birth may be an issue. After he was born and living in Hawaii, Obama’s father left and his mother remarried. This time to an Indonesian man named Lolo Soetoro. He took the whole family to Indonesia. Obama’s name was then Barry Soetoro. Barry then went to a Muslim school. He also became an Indonesian citizen. Indonesia does not allow dual citizenship. The U.S. also does not allow dual citizenship with any country that does no reciprocate. There is no question here that he had to give up any U.S. citizenship he had, whether “Natural Born” or otherwise. Maybe someone can correct me here, but I believe that since he had to give up his U.S. citizenship at that time, the most he could ever be on his return is a “Naturalized Citizen.” There is no doubt in my mind that I am a Natural Born Citizen. I was born not a quarter of a mile from where I am writing this in Massachusetts. If I were to go to a country like Indonesia that does not allow dual citizenship, and I were to become a citizen of that country, then return back home here, Could I then get my “Natural Born Citizenship” back? If it is proven before the electoral college votes that Obama is ineligible, there will be civil unrest around the country. There may even be riots. If this happens, who will be president? Biden? McCain? Somebody else? Will there have to be another election? Will we have a President Hillary. This is a scary thought. What if the fact that he is not elegible comes to light after the inauguration? What of the electors who placed there votes for him? Are they guilty of a crime? All his actions as president will be null and void. This scenario is a nightmare. What if it is never proven one way or the other? Are we still living as a nation of laws? The nation is slipping further and further away from the Freedom and Liberty we once had. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Bailouts The auto industry, GM, Chrysler and Ford are all holding out their hands since the government bailed out the financial industry. Where will it end? No matter how you look at it, bailouts are wrong. Why is it the governments responsibility. We believe in capitalism. If you don’t make a better mousetrap than the other guy, you lose. You make no money, you go out of business and wind up working for the guy that makes the better mousetrap. I heard that GM was selling cars and losing $500 - $1,500 per car. Now you can’t make up for that in volume. The solution? Raise the price so you make a profit. If no one buys them, you need to make a better car. Let me relate some personal experience here. I am driving a 12 year car, an Oldsmobile. I bought it brand new in 1996. I am a bit particular when buying a car. I want an American car (something that is lacking here in America these days. Don’t you people have any pride any more?). I also want a manual transmission. That is something that I am insistant upon. I have many reasons for that. A Manual transmission is simpler, lighter, more fuel efficient and transmits more power to the wheels. Besides, I like being in control. I would love to buy a new car right now. My choices are severely limited. I am 6’3” and I can’t fit in a car that is too small. I can get a Corvette or a Dodge Viper with a manual transmission but that’s not practical. I also don’t want rear wheel drive. The Chevy Cobalt is too small as is the Ford Focus. I’d like something just a bit bigger. I could get a Jeep but I don’t want an SUV. There is the Chrysler PT Cruiser. I’m thinking about it. I know it’s just a Dodge Neon with a different skin on it. Might be a bit too small. If I could get a Chevy Monte Carlo with a stick I would buy that in a heartbeat. Just for the fun of it, I checked Volkswagen and Toyota. I could get any of them with a standard transmission. Same with Saab, Nissan, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mercedes. I never, in my life thought I would drive a foreign car. It’s now getting tempting. If the big three can’t make money, maybe they deserve to go bankrupt. Maybe they should dissolve the companies and let somebody else pick up the pieces and make some cars that Americans want to buy. America was built on high quality and innovation. We have lost that edge as well as the pride of buying American. If the government wants to do something about it, they should impose higher taxes for foreign automakers. If Toyota wants to sell cars to Americans they should be charged a premium to do so. That doesn’t just go for cars. Electronics, furniture, musical instruments everything. If it’s foreign made, they should be taxed for the privilege of selling in America. A foreign owned business opening a factory a the U.S. should be taxed for that privilege as well. American companies should be left alone here in the U.S. The government should be keeping there noses out of our business. The government should deal only with privileges, not rights. We have the right to do business here and it is a foreigner’s privilege. Let’s keep things in perspective. It's been that way for a long time. We demonstrated this last weekend using a variety of polls conducted over several decades. It's frustrating. We ought to be able to get what we want -- smaller government. Instead, we are faced, in election after election, with a choice between two candidates, both of whom want larger government, in one way or another. In terms of what the candidates say . . . * One of them always seems to want to trash our economic liberties And in terms of what they do when elected, as opposed to what they promised in order to win our votes, everyone we elect always seems to trash all of our liberties all of the time. The choices before us in electoral politics are always bad ones. We can either choose a candidate who is only promising some of what we want, but who is likely to deliver all of what we don't want, or we can vote for a minor party candidate who is so overwhelmed by legal and structural impediments that his or her vote total will always be microscopic. Things are the exact opposite of how they should be. But to change this we must focus on the central problem. How do we turn the majority that favors smaller government into policies that achieve smaller government? Once upon a time, those of us who run Downsize DC tried to do this by building a new party. Over time we discovered that there was something about the human mind that places great importance on issues of identity. If one is a Republican or a Democrat it is psychologically difficult to conceive of becoming something else. An R wants to remain an R, and a D a D, no matter how bad the legislative policies of the elected office holders who represent those brands. After all, the alternative is much worse. At best, an R or a D may decide to become an independent. But a new party, that must necessarily be small at the start, and win few votes, is very hard for most people to adopt as their new self-image. A Red Sox fan does not become a Yankees fan, and neither is likely to switch to the Tampa Rays. There has to be an easier way of organizing the majority that favors smaller government into a large and powerful force capable of causing the changes that ought to be possible for a majority position. We think there is. We need to offer people an additional identity they can wear at the same time as their R and D and independent identities. We have chosen for this purpose the identity of the DC Downsizer. In addition . . . We must focus on areas of agreement instead of trying to force unified loyalty to partisan labels and candidates. In other words, we must learn to take yes for an answer. If a huge majority, or even a powerful minority, agrees with us on a given issue, then that issue is a tool we can use to build a large and powerful constituency, capable of fighting and winning. Individual issues are the way to recruit and mobilize the majority that favors smaller government. Individual issues sidestep the challenge of partisan identity change. Many issues qualify in this regard, but none more-so than the "Read the Bills Act" (RTBA) and the "One Subject at a Time Act" (OSTA). These are two issues to which most of the majority that favors smaller government can say a resounding yes, without any friction related to partisan labels or preferred political personalities. To hear this yes spoken often, it only remains for us to let people know that . . . * RTBA and OSTA exist And incredibly, if a massive constituency could be built on such a basis, then candidates seeking to tap that constituency might also appear, in both major parties. Build the constituency first, and the candidates will come. Do NOT try to build the parties and candidates first, hoping that the constituency will come. Build the constituency first. The next tactic we want to use to execute this strategy is also, like everything we do, simple and direct. We want to . . . * Rent lists of politically engaged people Two major donors have pledged a total of $50,000 to help make this happen. In return, they want other downsizers to come up with another $39,000 so that our entire operating budget of $186,000 will be completely funded for 2009. This will enable us to devote most of the additional funding that comes in to recruiting new Downsizers at a rapid rate. At present, we raise $97,000, annually, through monthly pledges (and the rest through one-time donations, with little to spare for advertising outreach). To get the $50,000 in major donor pledges, and to achieve the goal, all we need is the help of our supporters to "Close the Gap" of $39,000. We've already made major progress. Since our last report we've received large commitments (Top Down) and new monthly pledges (Bottom Up) totalling $5,051. Combined with what we reported to you on Monday, this reduces the amount we still have to raise to only $29,323. You could help two ways . . . You could Close the $29,323 Gap from the Top Down by making a larger pledge. Could you pledge something on the order of $1,000, $2,500, $5,000, $10,000, or $20,000? If you choose this route, with a minimum $500 donation, you won't have to fulfill your pledge until we have all the money raised. That way there is no risk you’re contributing a large amount and then wondering if the goal will really be met. When the goal is met we'll tell you, and only then cash your check or process your credit card. Better yet, we'll use your pledge as a matching fund to encourage smaller donations to help Close the Gap from the Bottom Up.
