Ron Paul – Does he have a chance?

That is a very interesting question. The other day I was listening to Jay Severin. He is a radio talk show host in Boston. If anybody would support Ron Paul I was certain it would be Jay. I have met Jay before and I usually agree whole heartedly with him almost all the time.

I was quite surprised to find out that he was not supporting Ron Paul. The reasoning was that although he agreed with what he had to say he did not stand a chance of winning. It was more important to support someone who not only had a chance of winning but could beat Hillary.

Personally I believe in supporting a candidate that you believe would do the best job. In every presidential election in recent history I believe I was voting for the lesser of two evils. My motto has been “vote republican, it’s the slower road to socialism”. It’s sad when that is how we look at the election.

You have to give Ron Paul a lot of credit. He is gaining momentum. He has raised so much money recently even the media is taking notice. He was on Jay Leno the other night and he is gaining more and more support. Every online poll puts him in the lead. MSNBC took down a poll because they thought his win was hacked. They got so much flak they learned not to mess with Ron Paul supporters.

The fact that Ron Paul wins every on line poll has been attempted to be explained by several sources. Some explain that his supporters are all younger, internet savvy people and not your average voter. Some also believe that the online polls are hacked, spammed or somehow otherwise skewed.

Personally I think that Ron Paul supporters, myself included are simply stronger believers in the message. All the other people that are polled do not have strong beliefs. They think that this candidate may be the best, or maybe that candidate. The average voter doesn’t have a strong enough belief to put a bumper sticker for their candidate on their car whereas the average Ron Paul supporter would like to put up a billboard. I have never felt strongly enough about a presidential candidate to even want to try to get people to vote for him until now.

Let’s not forget what Samuel Adams said. Samuel Adams is one of our earliest Founding Fathers and revolutionary. He said, "It does not take a majority to prevail...but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men." I think that is what we have here.

All the other candidates don’t have something that Ron Paul does have. He has an irate tireless minority. This minority is taking it upon themselves to get the message out. He has meetup groups organizing themselves. They are doing whatever they feel is best to support him. No other candidate has this.

The media has been trying to ignore Ron Paul and they are slowly learning that they cannot completely ignore him.

So, does he have a chance? Some people say no. I say he does. If his popularity continues to grow exponentially like it has, if his fundraising continues to grow like it has, he certainly has a shot.

Wouldn’t it be great to see a debate between Hillary and Ron Paul? That would be priceless!

Two Realities

The other day I saw a friend of mine who I hadn’t seen is a couple years. He had a friend over and he said to me, “Hey tell him about that Social Security thing.” It doesn’t take me much to get started and that was all I needed. I explained how getting a SSN is an application process which by it’s very nature is voluntary etc. Well this guy was riveted. I went on to explain how I stopped doing business with anyone that had the number, how I don’t have a personal bank account, how I made sure my son didn’t get numbered and so on.

A short time later he left and soon the phone was ringing. It was him, he had more questions. He was asking about how to proceed to become non-enumerated. I cautioned him and explained about the two realities.

Yes, there are two realities. There is what the law says. The law says one thing and is perfectly fine. You can read the law and understand it and it makes perfect logical sense. Then there is the second reality. This is what happens in practice. Sure, we know that the law says that the withholding agent only has to withhold from foreigners and foreign corporations, in practice, you will have a legal battle on your hands. In practice, you have to inform everyone about the first reality and try to change the second reality. This doesn’t always work.

Trying to live by what the law says can not only be struggle it can be downright dangerous. Certain government entities don’t care what the law says, this is where the second reality kicks in.

In order to deal with both realities one must first prepare. First thing to do is to protect ones assets. Do this first. No one can fault you for protecting your hard earned “stuff.” Second, educate yourself. Education is always a good thing. Nothing wrong with that. While you are doing these things, you can create your plan of becoming number free.

End the Income Tax in Massachusetts

We are at it again. There is a petition drive going on right now and coming down to the wire. Several years ago a similar initiative was put on the ballot. We managed to raise enough signatures to get the question put on the ballot. It was very simple. A yes vote said you wanted to end the income tax in Massachusetts. A no vote, keep the tax. Personally I thought it would be a landslide. Why wouldn’t everybody want to end the income tax? I overestimated the intelligence of the Massachusetts voters. I forgot, we keep voting in Ted Kennedy, we elected John Kerry and Mike Dukakis. Several years ago, we got over 45% yes votes to end the income tax.

Yes, I know that the state income tax is only a piggyback tax on the federal tax which citizens are not liable for. However, this will affect the alternate reality. What happens in practice.

Health Care

Here is something that bothers me. Health care. When I first started paying for my own Health Insurance, I paid $78/month. I was what I would call 100% covered. I paid $5.00 for a doctor visit and $5.00 for a prescription. The year was 1987.

Today, the same plan is well over $1,000 per month. I no longer have that plan as $1,000 per month is absolutely ridiculous.

This year, here is the socialist state of Massachusetts passed the MA Health Insurance Reform Law. I believe this was a bit misunderstood. The complaint has been that health care is too expensive and people in Massachusetts are going without health insurance. So, what did this Health Insurance Reform Law do? It made it mandatory for everyone to have some sort of “credible” health Insurance by the end of 2007. If you don’t there are penalties. Naturally the state decides what “credible” is. Counterproductive I would say.

Here are a couple of questions I have. In 1987 I paid $78/month. The same plan is now over $1,200/month. Has the insurance gotten that much better? Where is this money going? Second question; Technology has brought the price down of virtually everything. computers, televisions, you name it. If technology can help, the price has come down. There have been great advances in technology in health care. CT scans, MRIs lots of things. Why has the price not come down?
