Continental Congress Declares Independence from Mother Country!

Philadelphia, Colony of Pennsylvania - July 4th 1776 - The Continental Congress in a final precedent act of rebellion declared Independence for the Colonies of America from Great Britain by a unanimous number today. Apparently the rumors and speculations were correct that the tight-lipped delegates from the several colonies had been discussing a way to unify the Colonies for separation when it was reported, yet not verified, that a resolution of secrecy had been adopted by the Continental Congress late last year.

A Virginia delegation proposed to the Continental Congress: "…to declare the United Colonies free and independent states" on June 7th of this year. Mr. Richard Henry Lee of Virginia, when leaving the Hall is quoted as saying "The Virginia convention resolved unanimously to propose such on May 15th of this year." Mr. Lee went on to say: "We had also resolved to appoint a Committee to prepare a Declaration of Rights, and a plan of Government to maintain peace and order in this Colony. We sat in delay of three weeks following a motion to give the Delegates from those Colonies, which had not as yet given authority to adopt this decisive measure, an opportunity to review the plan. The second to the motion by Mr. John Adams, the cousin of the notorious Samuel Adams of the Massachusetts Bay Colony gave rise to the favour."

The formal proposal that was introduced to the Continental Congress by way of the Virginia resolution on June 7th of this year reads as follows:

Resolved, That these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent States, that they are absolved from all allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain is, and ought to be, totally dissolved.
That it is expedient forthwith to take the most effectual measures for forming foreign Alliances.
That a plan of confederation be prepared and transmitted to the respective Colonies for their consideration and approbation.

It is apparent to this writer that we have forged our future for turmoil and strife. For when this new Declaration, this unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America reaches the hand of his Majesty we shall surely bear the full force and wrath of the crown. In a defiant display, John Hancock has affixed his signature to the finished Document as if he were sticking a hornet's nest with his fist. This writer is also convinced that Mr. Jefferson took pleasure to see this final draft scrolled upon as if it were the final chapter of the good book itself.

I too dear Loyalists am now in favour of this Declaration of Independence. I was disappointed that our previous pleas to avoid the calamities of civil war went unheard by our countrymen and the Houses of Parliament. The decree to declare the causes and necessity of taking up arms drafted on July 6th of the previous year has brought no relief. Since the close of our last war with the French, the Representatives of the colonies have endeavored to regain civility by self-governance, only to be met with the strongest resistance by the British Empire. This has furthered the patriot's resolve, and is why I present to you the highlights of the Document prepared, signed and released today by our Continental Congress.

This synopsis, if only to remind you of the needs, facts, and truths of the matters at hand.

In CONGRESS, July 4, 1776
The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America

I. Our need to dissolve certain political relationships.
II. Our right to assume powers which God entitles man.
III. Our formal declaring separation from an unjust government.
IV. We rely upon these self-evident truths:
A. All men are created equal.
B. God our Creator gives to each unalienable Rights.
1. They are: Life, Liberty, Happiness, property, safety, respect, privacy, etc.
C. The purpose of government is to protect the weak from the strong.
D. Our right and duty to abolish bad government.
1. >From which we have received bad laws, bad courts, a police state (swarms of soldiers), and taxes without consent. We have been deprived of trial by jury and have experienced deporting people for trial. Our Mother Country has declared the people out of their protection, yet rights of individuals have been plundered.
2. The people repeatedly petitioned our Mother Country, but only received repeated injury.
3. We warned our Mother Country from time to time.
4. Our Mother Country was deaf to the voice of justice.
V. The people appealed to God the Supreme Judge of the world.
VI. The people have the right to be free and independent.
VII. Under the protection of God we have pledged our lives, fortunes and honor.

Our course for war is not born from the Colonies rebellion, rather our Mother Country has rebelled against God's Law by repeated injuries of usurpation and tyranny toward us. The young colonies are hereby forced to defend themselves against England's wrath and tyranny.

You, fellow citizen, are now requested to enlist in the Continental Army to defend these united States. The Regulars are coming...
