UPDATES:
* Tomorrow is "Selection" Day
Under the Electoral College system, we do not elect the President and Vice President through a direct nation-wide vote. The Presidential election is decided by the combined results of 51 State elections (in this context, the term "State" includes DC). Your vote helps decide which candidate receives your State's electoral votes. It is possible that an elector could ignore the results of the popular vote, but that occurs very rarely.

The founders of the nation devised the Electoral College system as part of their plan to share power between the States and the national government. Under the Federal system adopted in the Constitution, the nation-wide popular vote has no legal significance. As a result, it is possible that the electoral votes awarded on the basis of State elections could produce a different result than the nation-wide popular vote. Nevertheless, the individual citizen's vote is important to the outcome of each State election.

Key Electoral College Dates and Events

November 7, 2000 - General Election:
The voters in each State choose electors to serve in the Electoral College. As soon as election results are final, the States prepare seven "Certificates of Ascertainment" of the electors chosen, and send one original along with two certified copies to the Archivist of the United States.
December 18, 2000 - Meeting of Electors:
The electors in each State meet to select the President and Vice President of the United States. The electors record their votes on six "Certificates of Vote," which are paired with the six remaining original "Certificates of Ascertainment." The electors sign, seal and certify the packages of electoral votes and immediately send them to the President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States and other designated Federal and State officials.
December 27, 2000 - Deadline for Receipt of Electoral Votes: The President of the Senate, the Archivist of the United States, and other designated Federal and State officials must have the electoral votes in hand.
January 6, 2001 - Counting Electoral Votes in Congress: The Congress meets in joint session to count the electoral votes (unless Congress passes a law to change the date).

* This Day in History - November 6th, 1984
Ronald Reagan wins re-election in an overwhelming defeat of former Vice President Walter Mondale, who wins only his home state of Minnesota.

With 59% of the vote, the Reagan/Bush ticket leads with every major group of voters except blacks, Jews and Trade Unionists. Even Mondale's Vice Presidential running mate, Geraldine Ferraro, a Roman Catholic woman didn't prevent Reagan from taking a majority of the Roman Catholic and female vote.

The Republicans retain control of the Senate, and the Democrats are still in charge in the House of Representatives.

President Reagan arrives in Los Angeles as supporters shout "Four More Years!" to which Reagan replies, "I think that's been arranged."

George "Dubya" Bush - Mr. Gestapo
Ever wondered what the world would be like if you could ask the questions (uncensored) of political candidates instead of just allowing the typical Manchurian media mouthpieces? This news reporter obviously asked the wrong questions and provided some undaunting comments for the ear of Presidential candidate George "W" Bush. The following is an excerpt from the video clip "George W. Bush - Mr. Gestapo" produced by Alex Jones, a reporter in Texas. The end of this clip shows Alex Jones asking "Dubya" about the Federal Reserve and "CFR" (Council On Foreign Relations). A brave thing to do. Bush then starts to lose his composure and gestures (stares) towards his personal secret service commander to remove the fearless news reporter. He is immediately escorted from the room and interrogated by the commander as he is held face and body pressed firmly against a glass wall while being searched by local police. This is all caught on film by Alex's trusty and persistent cameraman.

Liberty Works Radio Network wrote: [We posted this] video clip ... on the free republic. Within 4 hours of its post, over 1500 people viewed it and it spawned one of the hottest threads the site had seen for months. To date it has had nearly 1800 "views" with more in the offing. (Note: the original video tape itself was pretty lousy so what we put on the internet isn't any better but you can adjust the picture quality contrast/brightness etc., of the windows media player from the "view" menu, "settings" option, then choose the MPEG4 "decompresser" ...just set the brightness to 67 and the contrast to 57 and the picture will look pretty good even over a 28K connection and even though the original media was substandard). The subject matter is great and the audio alone is pretty powerful.

Constitution Party Quiz Site
The Constitution Party formerly known as the US Taxpayers Party has put together a nice little quiz site on their official Internet HQ web site. The quiz's primary focus is on the US Constitution. Also included in this quiz is the occasional history trivia question which has been thrown in for good measure. The quiz revolves around a set of 10 questions. After completion of the examination you have the choice of an additional ten new questions being presented. We found it educational, and sometimes even a little embarrassing, as we even occasionally missed some questions. Open book is permitted. ;~) If you don't have a copy of the Constitution... shame. Check it out here or click on the Constitution Party's banner below.

Securing Social Security
- Reprinted with Permission
- Article by Dr. Debra Monde
Candidate for US Congress - TX

Once again, the politicians are seeking your vote promising to "save" social security. Saving a system that predicts bankruptcy every 20 years seems insane. Instead we need to make it "secure" for those who are dependent upon it now. In the meantime, we must take our retirement future out of the hands of the politicians.

Social Security is inherently unsound for the simple reason that it's a political program run by politicians for their re-election. Because of this, it can never work and it will never be truly solvent. The only answer is to take our money completely out of the hands of our elected officials.

Changing the current system

If we are to make progress in changing the present system then we must take note that there is no trust fund! There is no retirement account in Washington that has anyone's name on it. This is why most of those under age 50 do not expect to see a return on their "investment".

An example that opened my eyes came from a 46-year-old friend who had recently received his Social Security Earnings Benefit Statement. It seems that since he began working in 1969, he and his employer have paid $82,000 into the Social Security System.

My friend is not a wealthy man. His average income over those years was less than $23,000. What he showed me was that if he had invested that money in a mutual fund of nominal performance, he would have over a quarter million dollars today! He further explained to me that if he never contributed another dollar, his retirement investment would be worth $1.68 million when he reached the age of 67.

He is expected to pay an additional $110,000 into Social Security before he reaches retirement. If this had been privately invested, his retirement account would have been worth $3.55 million at age 67.

This vast sum would provide a monthly income in retirement of $20,000 for the rest of his life, and still leaves the $3.5 million in principal for his children to inherit. The measly $1,550 that social security promises him pales in comparison. [These numbers can be found on the Heritage Foundation's Social Security Calculator
http://www.heritage.org/socialsecurity/ Just put in ID code JJNMRI when you get to their site and you will see his actual earnings.]

Sounds too good to be true? Well that's what politicians are counting on - keeping you ignorant and keeping themselves in office.

Our Children's Future

Too many people don't recognize the value of compound interest. Did you know that $1,000 deposited into a baby's stock account on their first birthday would be worth $256,000 on their 65th birthday? Don't believe it? Go ask any banker or stockbroker.

So, who has $1,000 to put into a baby's account? Well, if that baby's parents are both at minimum wage jobs, they paid $1,670 into social security each year of their child's life, with the employer paying an equal amount in their name.

You can see it's not about money, but about the future. It is the difference between living your life to the fullest, or living in debtor's prison. Social Security is a mistake of our past. Wishing to maintain this system for our children and grandchildren borders on child abuse.

Securing Social Security

Many of us have parents and grandparents who depend on Social Security for their daily bread. There is a way to provide for them without condemning our future generations to horrific tax rates. We must shrink government and create a positive cash balance. When this is done, the government can purchase private annuities equal to the value already paid by each citizen. This annuity will then belong to each individual.

In reducing the size and scope of the federal government, the first program to go is the retirement program for federal politicians. Presently they can draw up their full pay, without ever having paid into the system, taking millions of dollars of our tax money for the rest of their lives. These are the people who lied to us all these years. This nonsense must stop!

We must return the social security tax money to the people immediately. All Americans should be required to begin investing these monies into their own retirement accounts.

None of this will happen, of course, until we choose to elect officials who will bring back smaller government and create a positive balance in the budget. That is when Americans will have a secure retirement system.
