This is my complaint to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office. "On May 26th, 2005, I went into labor at home. After laboring for a while my water broke. My husband and I noticed Maconium in it. We called an ambulance; it was 11:30pm. When I had arrived at Hennepin County Medical Center, the Doctors did examine me. Because the baby was breech (back down) and my water was gone and the meconium that was present, The doctors and we decided that a cesarean would be the safest procedure. We trusted them.

They prepped me and gave their drugs to proceed. The anesthesiologist told the O.R. Doctor’s that I was ready for the C-Section. I on the other hand told the anesthesiologist that I could feel everything that the Emergency Operating Room doctors were doing. The incision, the pulling apart, the extreme pulling and tugging. But the Doctors did not stop to give a stronger medication. I could feel myself going into shock. My husband was in shock watching me. This continued until the Doctor’s had to close me up. I told the Doctor’s again and again that the pressure was very painful but NO ONE listened. I could feel the doctors push the uterus back into me, and I almost threw up. I could feel the Doctors stitch me up. I was in so much shock from this that I could not even enjoy my son once he was born. Our baby boy was born at 1:30 am on May 27th.

After I was in my room recovering for sometime, about 5- 8 hours or so, I finally got to see our son in the NIC unit. Our Son was being treated for meconium in the lungs.

Later that day, I’d have to say late evening, around 11pm, May 27th I went to feed my son. While I was feeding him, the NIC unit nurse wanted my signature on consent form for the Hep. B shot. I told her that I would not sign or authorize this until I have done further research on this immunization. I specifically told her not to give him a hepatitis B shot, period. She assured me that would be ok. I trusted her.

At a later feeding I noticed a band aid on his leg. I asked the nurse in charge what it was from. She said it was from the Hepatitis B shot he had received. I could not believe it. I told her that I didn’t even sign the consent forms. I told her that I said not to give him a hepatitis B shot. Another nurse heard our conversation and said it was given in the first 12 hours of life. Then I said, “I didn’t even see the consent forms until just a few hours ago, well over 12 hours after the birth.” The Pediatrician in charge was very apologetic and could not explain how this could happen. I would have taken my son right there and then out of Hennepin County Medical Center if I had the strength. I told the HCMC Staff I would be leaving the next morning with my son. My son and I left the HCMC May 29th.

Further more, In June, we called a complaint into the hospital’s patient complaint department. Nothing has been done. I have not received any follow up to this complaint.

My research supported my decision to instruct the hospital “NOT” to give Baby Boy Lieder a Hepatitis B shot. Among other things, Hepatitis B is an adult disease.

Therefore, we demand a formal apology and a statement as to why the shot was given without consent (and then trying to cover up their mistake by trying to get me to sign the consent form after the fact) from the Hennepin County Medical Center."

I also left hospital with out naming my son, knowing that they would screw up his real christian name and give him a SSN.

Also, we consider having this baby free because the hospital admitted they were wrong in giving this shot and forgave the $27,000 hospital bill.

The hospital called a year later wanting the information and we said NO and they donot have consent to submit a birth certificate on our behalf as "BABY BOY". Does any one have experience in this action???

My son is BORN FREE.
