You can do it

Back 22 years ago I refused to sign anything at the hospital when my first child was born. The most important thing I didn't sign was the birth Registration info. form. When asked why I stated I wouldn't sign anything I was not required by law to sign and please get me the law that requires me to sign.

They came back and said there was no law requiring me to sign.

I did this with all 4 of my children.

I had friends that did fill out the form but checked on the botton that they didn't want a SSN. Sure enough weeks later they received a SSN in the mail for their baby. In all instances 4 hospitals in different parts of the country said it was a key stroke error. YEAH RIGHT

Come to find out I did the right thing.

A SSN can't be issued without the parents signature. Since I or my wife didn't sign they didn't / couldn't issue a SSN. It is important to know they only need 1 parents signature on the birth form to issue a SSN.

If you don't want your children to have a SSN dont sign anything at the hospital. The birth can be registered at a later date with the county and a SSN won't be issued from there. The hospital may say if you don't they won't release the baby. If they say that just tell them you will call the police and have them charged with kidnaping.

Back to my story.

Fast forward 21 years. My daughter took and passed an EMT course. All the paper work said she had to have a SSN to become registered with the state of OH if she passed the exam, and without it she could net get registered, all professional people licenced with the state of OH the state uses their SSN for identification, police, doctors, EMTs, fire fighters, Ect.. What she did was she obtained a letter from and signed by SS showing she had never ever been issued a SSN. Copys were submitted from the begining of the course.

When she passed the course there was a problem due to no SSN. In the end the State had to change all their requirements because there was no legal requirement for her to have one and to deny her would have been illegal. They issued her a State issued # rather than using her SSN as her #.

She is now the first and only state registered EMT / professional with no SSN.

The entire State had to change to conform to the law.

Now getting work may be a different story.
