John came up with the original idea for this one. We worked together on the music and we put it all together in a short time. We tried to get a bit of a different sound to it with the acoustic guitar running through the song. I think this song is a bit of a stepping stone. We'll see where it leads us. Now all the hippies are old Casually limping down the street, social security checks in their hands I’ve seen them all cutting their hair; trading freedoms for retirement plans The dreams they had for our society never made it through the 1970’s Now they accept what the government offers. May I have my Medicaid please? Now all the hippies are old They changed society. By giving LSD to your dad Now all the hippies are old Running society into bankruptcy killing families there in Baghdad Now all the hippies are old Now they have changed their mind and it’s quite all right to go to war Now all the hippies are old I think they’re turning green but tell me; whom they’re doing it for? Casually strolling down the street, unwilling to admit they sold out They raise their banner high to the sky while waiting for another hand out The dreams they had for our society perished as the acid wore down Now they accept what the government offers. Where are all the free thinkers now? Now all the hippies are old They take a nap at noon and very soon they’ll be going to bed Now all the hippies are old Their dreams are gone; where they hallucinations all in their head? Now all the hippies are old. Now all the hippies are old. Now all the hippies are old. |
